Psychology will help you diagnose a mental disorder. However math plays a huge role in treating it. In order to know what exactly is going on in the brain’s of people with such disorder, we need to make a complex map to neural firings and compare it to one of a normal or average brain. Making such a map required recordings of EEGs which appear as digitized signals. Processing these signals to understand them required various mathematical functions such as Fourier transforms or wavelet filtering. Any signal or wave can be broken up into cosines and sines. Where do you learn cosines and sines? Pre-calc. Once we can visually see data from the brain or have computers analyze the mathematics, we can engineer solutions.
