I was listening to NPR today and they were talking about how here are people complaining about Andy Carvin, a prominent journalist who has been extensively covering the Arab Spring through Twitter, because of the graphic videos he posts. He was responsible for the recent video of a person with his jaw blown off (WARNING: TRIGGER FOR GORE) going viral. People actually felt that he should not even post links like that on the internet because “once its seen, it cannot be unseen”. I don’t understand this. He posts warnings and YouTube even redirects you to a warning page before the video. Second, the point of sharing these images and videos is to embed it in our minds so we can realize what the hell is happening outside our quaint homes. One cannot expect pretty images from warzones and revolutions.

I suspected people to be disturbed to the point of care, not to the point of induced apathy. We cannot censor what has already been censored.
